The Sound Gallery features music organized around different themes or questions. I am currently reflecting on the relationship between music and memory specifically music and the national memory. email to propose an idea for the Sound Gallery.

A Day of National Mourning

About “a Day of National Mourning”

This selection is in memory of the 153 elderly women who were burnt to death in a fire at the Eventide Home for the aged in Jamaica on May 20, 1980. The women were buried in a mass grave on May 26 inside National Heroes Park. Prime Minister Michael Manley declared the day a “day of national mourning”. Some tracks speak specifically to the “Eventide Home Fire” and the other tracks tell us about other days of “national mourning” we have forgotten.
